Establishment Purpose of the Nishi Tokyo City Cultural and Arts Promotion Association

The cultural administration of Nishi Tokyo City is currently at a turning point. The mayor pledged in the manifesto to establish the "Basic Ordinance for the Promotion of Arts and Culture." In response to the mayor's consultation, the Cultural Arts Promotion Policy Discussion Group (consisting of 10 members, including 5 citizens selected through public recruitment) proposed the "Promotion Policy for Culture and Arts in Nishi Tokyo City" in September 2006.

In light of this, the city enacted the "Promotion Ordinance for Culture and Arts" on April 1, Heisei 22 (2010). Additionally, the operation of facilities such as the Komorebi Hall, established as a cultural base by the mayor, transitioned from the Nishi Tokyo City Cultural and Sports Promotion Foundation to private designated administrators from April Heisei 20 (2008). A survey in 2006 showed that "satisfaction" with culture and the arts ranked first in the city's policy demand questionnaire, indicating a high level of interest among citizens.

With the enactment of the "Promotion Ordinance for Culture and Arts," isn't it important for us citizens to engage in more imaginative activities and elevate Nishi Tokyo City into a "town of cultural dissemination"? It is under such sentiments that we have established the "Nishi Tokyo City Cultural and Arts Promotion Association" as a body to gather and reflect the voices of the citizens.
